About Us

History

The House of Hope and Healing originated with Rita Hughes’ wish to provide her expertise in a non-institutional setting to those seeking help. She wanted to provide a more spiritual and emotional approach to therapy to support the educational and clinical approach of a public institution. Also, she wished to be able to help not just the individual seeking help but also affected family members. Rita Hughes adopted the name ‘The House of Hope and Healing’, which was registered in 1990, and she obtained the phone number 613-722-hugs (4847). In 1996 The House of Hope and Healing moved to its present location at 14 Bayswater Avenue, Ottawa.

Fabio Rancevas,

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), MA, BA

Presently, I am a student Masters level in Counselling Psychology practicing under clinical supervision. My approach to therapy consists primarily of building a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. I value the unique dignity of every human person. I see the therapeutic relationship as a way of affective “being” with a person as opposed to effective “doing”. One of my goals is to reveal my client's intrinsic goodness. Therefore, I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment in my therapy sessions. For a theoretical method, I use an integrative psychotherapy approach based on research-based theories.

In particular, I rely on attachment theory, polyvagal theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and some psychodynamic modalities. I also find exploring life’s meaning with my clients using an existential-philosophical approach highly beneficial.

I have a particular research interest in Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP), emotion regulation, and the connection between trauma, maladaptive behavior, and addiction. Finally, being a father of five daughters also solidified my interest in understanding and helping other parents in building emotional connections with their loved ones.
